Food and Fun:)
Being on base is such a patriotic feeling for us and brings back many memories of being in Germany for high school!!! But things have changed: because of 911 and the ?army psychologist who killed people on base in the past year, security is tighter and tighter. We have to hand our ID each time to the gate guard and he puts it in a hand held reader to match us to the files, Dale is prevented from using his work computer for any personal emails, license plates no longer are different and thus don't identify us as americans. The army bases were original German WWII bases so the look is very german:) We've eaten in the "mess hall" which has good food, made to order burgers/omellets, already cooked buffet (had collard greens and they were even good) salad bar but no spinach/ romaine lettuce and no ice tea, HELP:)
We have had great german food: Spargel the white asparagus is in season and huge/tasty:) The bratwurst are not like the ones in Wiesbaden but long, skinny ones and not our favorite....the french fries/pomnes frites are always delicious:) The salads are usually not lettuce but thin sliced cabbage with a vinegarette, thin sliced cucumbers, tomatoes....fun differences. We're off to look for villages we might want to live in so hope this finds you each well and happy, take care!!!
