Wiesbaden and back to the base in Ansbach

As Kay was saying, we really enjoyed visiting Wiesbaden for our high school reunion, but it was too bad that we really didn't know anyone.....we were from the oldest class (1963) with the nearest being '66, one person and '67 several. Others of about 40 WHS'ers were younger. We visited many of the old haunts including downtown, the walking street, the Eagle Club (picture to the left), the Russian church with its golden domes, the Nerobad at the top of the hill, Mainzer Strassa with the Hallenbad (swimming pool) and the Porsche dealer, Heineberg shopping center with the Taunus theater (where we held our high school graduation) Aukamn housing area, where both Kay and I lived with our families and we got to stay one night in the American Arms Hotel, where my family lived for almost a full year when we first arrived in Germany in 1959. (looking down the center lobby's six floors in the picture to the right) etc. We went out to dinner up in the hills the first night with the group and spent the next morning down on the Rhein river along the waterfront and little shops in Mainz. Driving back on Sunday morning we cruised on the autobahn at permitted speeds (anywhere between 20mph and 130 mph) It was a blast and the miles just melt away. We stoppped by another Army base, (Illisheim)on the way home. It was near Rothenberg and about 30 miles from Ansbach. When we got back we went for a long walk in the forest nearby, got a coke at McDonalds here in town and then cleaned the car up from the trip. We also visited the house we plan to move into this week to see how the cleaning and repains were coming...lookin good. We will include photos and some description in the next blog.
