CRETE NEW YEARS 2012

We drove over to Herklion for the day to see some more of the antiquities and museums including the REALLY old pieces as early as 6800 BC and from the Minoan culture 2000BC (as you can see in the fresco from the Knossos palace) "the jumping of the bulls". We enjoyed the waterfront and old fortress there and also visited an old monastery up in the hills (amid goats on the road and narrow pot-holed pavement. Inside it was so ornate and beautiful in contrast to the simple and somewhat worn-down exterior....oh, how long ago these places were built and have been used. And on New Year's Eve...how it did rain! We still had a great time, in the photo above enjoying one of several celebratory drinks as we started another year together (51 and counting..) And so, the Mayans prediction thankfully did not come true..good thing..I still have a little living to do. Happy New Year to all!
