STOCKHOLM 10/7/2012

Our 3 day weekend in Stockholm was delightful with sunny weather, good food and enjoying the Swedish connection of Suzanne's mother-in-law, Eva Feldman.  Suzanne got engaged in Stockholm and we hope to visit here again with the Feldman family;)  We spent part of a 2nd day on the Djurgarden island which is a lovely park area with many museums.   The open-air Skansen is a collection of 18-19 century buildings from all over Sweden... mostly painted red wood or like the top picture of a stone farm building with a straw roof.  Skansen also had a zoo of Swedish animals that our grandsons will enjoy someday.  As usual, we walked and walked, enjoying all the water views and found ourselves at the Ostermalms Saluhal a great indoor market (middle picture). Then on to the Stadhuset or City Hall built on another island and close to our hotel.  The Nobel prize winners are wined and dined in this beautiful building with the famous mosaic tile gold room (above)   It was a pleasant surprize to have the Nobel recipients announced just after our return to Germany!
