TURKEY 3/15/13

We flew direct from Nurnberg to Antalya, Turkey over the President's weekend and really enjoyed the scenery of snow-capped mountains and the blue Mediterranean (this area is called The Turquoise Riviera).  Antalya is the largest city in the area, and we stayed near the ancient harbor with its' old city (the Kaleici) that is surrounded by ancient Roman or Ottoman walls.  The bottom picture is of Hadrian's gate which was erected in honor of the Roman emperor in AD 130!  The winding, narrow walking streets of the Kaleici were fun to explore and shop, but we loved the view once we hit the harbor area.... look behind us in the top picture for the snow caps:)  The many mosques, minarets and a Roman tower that gained a clock to become known as the Clock Tower all added to the lovely atmosphere and views in the Kaleici.   We found the people very nice, helpful and western....in other Muslim countries the women usually have their head covered and often wear a veil.   In Turkey most women's heads were uncovered and we saw many more couples... not just groups of men:)  They also have their national alcoholic drink called Raki. which we didn't like but we did enjoy the local beer:)
