Turkey in February

We took a day trip Termessos which is a 2nd century "city" built by an indiginous people high on a mountain at 4500 ft. It was so impregnable that Alexander the Great decided not to conquer it in his march across much of asia minor and europe. The Greeks and the Romans made mention of Termessos in their writings and some of the buildings, temples and architecture resembele their styles. We got there by bus, then taxi and then the last hour by foot. There were structures such as the amphitheater (top) the carved structures into the mountain sides and a large water system with cisterns and baths etc....quite advanced for the times. We also visited an area on the coast, in a protected valley with a stream through it from the mountains to the beach. Olympus was also an advanced "city" that also lies in ruin (mostly it seems from earthquakes over the centuries). Above is a tomb, one of many that has been broken into years before. Being on the coast, this city was conquered repeatedly by pirates, other civilizations etc and was eventually reclaimed by Julius Cesear during his rule of the Romans. All in all, we found antiquities throughout the area..not like in the US where over 100 years is old, but here in the "cradle of civilization"..centuries old.
