MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 2013:)

Krakow, Poland was a very special place to visit over Memorial Day weekend.   It has a lovely, large Market Square with outdoor cafes, a 1555 Cloth Hall that is now a tourist market, churches and is the meeting place for the people of Krakow.  On the square is the St. Mary's Church (top picture) with the large, beautiful carved altar by Veit Stoss from Nurnberg (1477-89).  We enjoyed walking to the square both night and day.    The Royal castle on Wawel Hill overlooking the Vistula river was a nice walk and the Wawel Cathedral a beautiful mausoleum to famous rulers and other historical figures.  We were lucky to have Annetta with us our first day in Krakow.  She is from Poland and now a civilian dentist with Dale at Katterbach:)  She was a great guide and hostess!   The middle picture is Annetta and Kay in the caves under the castle.  A dragon lived in the caves before the town was built... and now a fire belching statue is outside the cave:)    One of the local snacks was a large, flatbread sandwich called a Zapiekanki:)   Our favorite restaurant turned out to be Taco Mexicano where we ate twice and we had a nice Italian meal at Corleone.... we walked by a Hard Rock Café but enjoyed the local restaurants more!
