REGENSBURG

On 9/14 we drove 1 1/2 hours southeast to Regensburg a delightful medieval town that started as a Roman garrison on the Danube in 179 AD. The St. Peter's cathedral dominates the skyline and was begun in 1260 whereas the the stone bridge was built in the 1100's! The bridge rests on 16 arches and for many centuries was the only crossing of the Danube for many miles. We enjoyed bratwurst with the local brown mustard at the Historische Wurstkuche, the oldest sausage kitchen in Germany. Dale worked a half day on Saturday and then we took off to the east to discover the Mosel River valley for the rest of the Labor Day weekend (on the next blog)...
