WURZBURG 2

Besides the castle on the top of the hill and overlooking the city there is the RESIDENCE that is a palace built in the downtown that was spectacular...the first photo is Kay in front of the fountain with one of the wings in the background. Inside is the grand staircase and some amazing frescos that survived the tremendous firebombing by the US warplanes during WWII. On that day in March of 1945 and in just 22 minutes, the town was all but leveled...quite miraculous that it is rebuilt in such German splendor. The center photo is one of the wonderous rooms in white and gold. (stucco ornamentation) Remember that you can click on the photos to make them larger....I bought a new camera that is better than the point and shoot...so I have been trying to compose some better and more interesting pictures..haven't decided yet that it makes it so. The third photo was taken in one of the city squares that we stopped at. We were sitting outside at the Rathous cafe listening to the quartet playing traditional German om-pah music. Wurtzburg was a better than expected surprise and is now on our must visit list. This weekend we will start out with a one day drive to Regensburg..on the Danube and supposedly a must see..we'll see.
