WEIKERSHEIM 12/24/10

I need to catch up the blog so we can add what we did this past weekend:) Sunday the 24th we drove through the lovely countryside, with leaves changing, fields being plowed to Weikersheim which is north of Rothenburg and on the Romantic Road. In our Michelin book, which we use ALL the time for these wonderful small towns we are discovering, they didn't even list it with a star... but we thought it was fantastic. A small seat of one of the Hohenlohe family, the schloss/castle (1580)was abandoned in the 1750's when the family died out...and forgotten. So the original furnishings are really lovely and the formal gardens with green houses for oranges and Knights Hall were outstanding:) Then we drove to Creglingen where outside of town is this small isolated church with a beautiful alterpiece carved by Tilman Riemenschneider (1460-1531) who we had discovered in Bamberg and Rothenburg but really connected with this particular work... It was such a pleasant surpise to discover all these great places that we hadn't planned on when we took off in the morning:) Hope this finds you and yours doing well!!!
