BAD MERGENTHEIM

These photos were taken in Bad Mergentheim, a cute little town about halfway between here and Frankfurt. Dad sent us an old brochure of a hotel there. He had just arrived in Germany with Mom and me(1948)and was stationed at Wiesbaden while flying in the Berlin Airlift. Apparently they did not have housing for us in Wiesbaden, so we were put up in this hotel along with other American families. It was two hours from the airfield. Anyway, Kay and I set out last weekend to see if we could find that hotel. The first photo is of the hotel..it is now a large rehab facility...but was clearly the hotel in question. We even went inside and found our room with the view of the city below (the church spires)..nice little town as you can see in the photo taken in the square. It was so neat to be walking the streets where I was at age three and thinking about my folks being there during those many years ago. We hit the road home after a late lunch and were home again by dinner time.
