The river that runs in front of the Mezquita in Cordoba flows through Sevilla, less than 100 miles away and only 60 miles from the coast where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Cadiz. The centerpiece of Sevilla is the cathedral, the world's largest gothic church, housing the tomb of Christopher Columbus. In one photo you see the spires as viewed from an ancient tower on the nearby river. Before the cathedral on this site was a large mosque...but here it was destroyed and replaced in the late 1400's. The interior is large and impressive...you can see the ceiling and the great organ in the next photo. The third picture is of the very sacred Macarena, or weeping Madonna. It is found in a much smaller church on the north side of town and interestingly, within a block of our hotel. This city and many others in southern Spain revere this representation of Mary.
