BAD KREUZNACH

We decided to spend a weekend here in Germany without driving too far, so we headed over to Wiesbaden to check out some possible "memorabilia" for the high school group..ended up parking at Karstadt's downtown and had a great time at the Saturday market with the Church and numerous vendor as you can see to the left. We then headed south to the Spa town of Bad Kreuznach. I remember that some of our American high school students came from "BK" since they did not have their own school back then. A small Army base of about 2500 soldiers..It was a delightful town. We stayed in a spa hotel, but the big draw for the area is the salt mineral water from deep below the city and its reported healing powers. This particular day they were having a "wine walk" with numerous tasting stations (that we thoroughly enjoyed) in the vinyards along the high ridge on the west side of the town. The photo above is one of Kay and I stopping along the walk. The other is of the bridge that crosses the Nahe river in BK..at this point, we are about ten miles south of Bingen, where the Nahe flows into the mighty Rhein. The weather was perfect..blue sky and warm..we spent the evening at a wonderful Italian restaurant right on the river with the sound of the rapids just over the rail.
