The Pantheon was originally a pagan temple (27 BC) and converted to a Christian Church in the early middle ages. Its dome was the model for the renaissance domes of Florence, St Peters and also the Capitol Dome in Washington, DC. ..one of the many historic places of worship in Rome. And the other two pictures are of Santa Maria in Trastevere, just across the Tiber in Rome......Rome's "left bank" and the very first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother. Another special and holy site in this ancient city. I said a special prayer for our Catholic friends in their behalf. The whole city is filled with Churches..every where you turn and every little street has something..many times plain on the outside but beautiful on the inside..
