We were off to Rome for the extended weekend..a "been there done that " in some ways, but for those of you lucky enough to visit "the eternal city" , every time is another " Rome Adventure"...this time not with Gregory Peck, Tammy (Sandra Dee), Audri Hepburn or Troy Donahue..etc...but still with all of the Vespa motor scooters and Fiat 500's, pasta and red wine you could wish for. And all of the old sights are still there..in the photo to the left you can see the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, Arch of Titus etc taken from the top of the Victor Emmanuel Monument...and then there is the Trevi Fountain from the "three coins in the fountain" movie fame and of course, the Spanish Steps from the Roman Holiday Movie..all in all, the famous and enduring sights of Rome...and there are so many more..(see the next blogs for a few of them). Anyway, we stayed in the Pantheon area and loved the many and quaint restaurants and shops throughout the whole city. In Rome, everything is everywhere...and we walked and walked and walked....from one side to the other. It is an amazing city..History here is not of the last century but of the last millinium...and in the Vatican Museum we saw things from 3500BC..think about it. It makes our time here on earth seem so inconsequential, so short, so meaningless. Be born, live and then you are gone..like so many more before us..moreover..make it count!
