WIESBADEN:)

Most of you WHSers will remember the high school. It remains the same on the south side as you see here and with the auditorium in the distant right. The other side of the school and the west end is being completely redone. Looks to be a whole new gym and west wing..hard to tell exactly, but it is getting bigger for sure. Across the street was the Chapel...same as before, but the cafeteria was no longer there as I could tell. We have learned that Wiesbaden is becoming HQ for US Army Europe..so things will be built up instead of closing. We also went to look at Aukamm, Crestview and Hainerberg, the shopping center and Taunus theater (our graduation ceremony), the Commisary, The American Arms (now closed) and Eagle Club (now German), Lindsay Air Station (now German), Amelia Erhardt (gone), Sonnenburg (the castle ruins are still there, but we could not find the "library",aka "the Brook", bar hangout for all of the beer drinking bad boys in high school. (heh heh) The Von Steuben Hotel is still across from the Bahnhof, looks sosrt of the same but it is no longer the hotel we remember..and the circle just below Hainerberg is now an on-top intersection instead, with an underneath bypass. We visited the Porsche dealership across from the Hallenbad (swimming center)on the street where the red light girls could be found in the old days (or so we heard). The license plate is no longer the red "USA" with a number since they are trying not to make the Americans so easy to spot...now it is just like the German plates, a "WI" for Wiesbaden, followed by some letters and numbers....the one in the picture that we took in Rudesheim was especially fun and could probably fit one of our cars....."WINO"..Overall...a great re-visit to the old days.
