We really enjoyed the Catalan modernista (Art Nouveau) architecture of Barcelona with Antonio Gaudi's unfinished Sagrada Familia cathedral, these pictures and the #1 sightseeing place. Gaudi started the church in 1882 but his untimely death in 1926 has left it being built but not finished...yet:) We also saw one of his residence buildings, Casa Mila, that like the cathedral has NO straight lines for the ceilings/walls/corners etc. Picasso donated his art to establish the Picasso Museum as he lived in Barcelona and was influenced by the Catalan modernista art movement. The museum arranged his paintings in chronological order and we were amazed to see his early paintings that were very classical... and then how they changed:) All of these things contributed to make Barcelona historic, interesting and beautiful!!
