JULY 4th, 2013... PORSCHE FACTORY TOUR:)

We visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. The top photo is taken of the outside of the factory from the Museum. The models they make there are the Carrera 911 and the Boxster. The tour starts with the pieces and parts department and the body shell fabrication area...from there, step by step, a car takes shape. Everything is orchestrated so that the correct parts, options, fabrics, colors etc come together at the right time and the workers put them together as the construction occurs.  The line is made up of all colors, models, options, left and right hand drives, automatics and manuals etc and finish as the wheels are added , the fuel and oil etc is added and then the car is started and driven off the line to the storage area..ready for the shipment to the buyer. It is interesting that EVERY model is already sold, whether to individuals or to dealers. Robots are used for some things now, but the car is still hand made and certainly closely supervised by a real person...you should see the upholstery department...a whole room of sewing machines and the smell of leather in all colors and for all parts, from seats to dashes to doors etc. It was easy to see why a Porsche is so expensive...not only the technology and performance, but also for the quality that goes into each and every one of them... A few days later we packed up our household goods and emptied the house. In addition to the "things" we put our Porsche into the box headed for Seaside Oregon...the BMW is already on its way to LA for us to pick up and drive to Portland...and the Audi is sold. Ahhhh,... I sure love Germany for its cars and its roads and of course, the Autobahn. Driving is taken seriously here..and it is serious pleasure as well. We will miss our road trips..
