TEXAS, DECEMEBER 2013
When we left the Richardson's near Gainsville, Florida we started driving I-10 toward California. Our 2 weeks were a lot of driving but also a rediscovery of the USA... we loved it!! We did get to have lunch with another high school friend, Tom Muldoon, before leaving Florida and enjoyed the changing scenery as we traveled through Mississippi, Louisiana and into Texas. LOVED the 500 year old oak tree (St. John Cathedral Oak) with a 9' diameter of its' trunk and lunch at the Blue Dog Café in Lafayette, Louisiana! We had to stay south on I-10 instead of getting up to Dallas, TX as the winter storms had started and the first freezing rain of the season had hit:( We did get to the German town of Fredricksburg and went to Willie Nelson/ Waylan Jennings famous Luckenbach, Texas... and listened to their music as we traveled west;) Though it was not a pretty time of the year to be driving, the change from flat Florida to the hills of Texas to the beginning of the desert, plateaus of the west was still very special... and we want to go back at another time of the year:)
