MALTA 3

This is the 3rd of our travels in Malta over Thanksgiving, so if you want to be chronological scroll down and start with Malta 1:) This was a favorite day of riding old local buses and walking a very historical part of Malta. Mdina was the old capitol of Malta and established by the Romans.... in the middle of the island with arab walls and Catholic churches to dominate the skyline:) The Cathedral (beautiful Baroque interior) has the typical 2 clocks that do not have the same time so that the devil doesn't know what time to disrupt the services:) We really enjoyed the history of the shipwreck of St. Paul in 60AD....kept prisoner by the Romans he wanted to preach in a grotto that a church was later built over (1656). In the area there were also many Catacombs for burying the early Christians. We are having a great history lesson:) Hope this note finds you and yours doing well!! Take care:)

I love the creepy pirate ship lantern in the picture above. Sounds like a super cool place, a little like Zanzibar maybe, it had the same super-dense streets with Middle Eastern doors and embellishments....wish we could have been there!
