BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TEXAS 12/13
Spending another day to cross Texas, we enjoyed seeing the worlds largest Road Runner statue, Fort Stockton and Fort Davis from the old west days but best of all we loved spending a night on the Rio Grande border with Mexico at Big Bend National Park. Trying to escape the freezing rain hitting near I-10 we headed south and then encountered freezing fog:( Luckily the roads were clear but it was very different to see cactus and desert plants coated in frost!! We were above the freezing fog as we climbed the mountain range in the park to stay at the park hotel. The 3rd picture is Santa Elena Canyon where the Rio Grande has cut through the mesa and we walked it for 30 minutes:) The park is about 1 1/2 hours south of I-10 so we are glad we took the time to see this very special and different area of our country!!
