ULM on the Danube

Ulm is a reasonably large city in Germany...situated on the Danube River of "Blue Danube" fame..We arrived about noon after taking the Romantic Road down most of the way, but when it turned to Augsburg, we cut over to the Autobahn for the last 20 minutes of the trip. For you car guys..the Audi does 90 at 3000 RPM, 120 at 4000 RPM and we moved to 130 at one time just to see how it did...the car is smoth and quiet and the turbo keeps the power coming at the higher RPMs. We enjoyed the car and it reminded me why the Germans like their sedans and the top speeds rather than the acceleration values. ULM was a great sity. We drove to the center of town the "stadtmitte" in time to have our first bratwurst mit brochen and mustard...a treat! We visited the "Munster", monster, I believe,as they describe the great church, surrounded by vendors, restaurants, shops and quite a few people. It was spectacular inside..reminded me of a smaller version of St Peters in Rome. The spire is the tallest in the world..and you can climb it for a small fee..we declined after climbing the one in Nordlingen earlier in the morning. We then walked down to the Danube and enjoyed the small streets and quaint shops..I ws surprised that the river was flowing briskly and was clean and refreshing...it eventually goes all the way to the Black Sea.. You can see the church and city from across the river in one of the pictures, one of the little old (bent) houses on one of the little creeks flowing into the river, and the third photo is of me (beerglass in the foreground) on one of the creeks where Kay and I had dinner...all in all a great day and SOOOO close to where we live...Otherwise we are still working on our house and unpacking the boxes..getting the "office" organized etc...nice that the heat has broken and things are much more pleasant. On Wednesday we leave in the Porcshe for Switzerland....Best to all...Dale and Kay
