AMALFI, RAVELLO, POMPEII:)

Driving to Amalfi from Positano over Thanksgiving weekend, we enjoyed a much bigger town that was not so "closed down" for the winter off-season. Lots of shops and restaurants to enjoy:) The Duomo (picture to the right) has a exterior with mosaics showing a mix of Moorish and early Gothic influences and was built in the 13th century over the crypt of St. Andrew. Next we drove to Ravello which has a Duomo with a medieval pulpit created in 1272 (middle picture with columns sitting on lion pedestals:). We enjoyed more beautiful views of the Amalfi Coast from the Villa Cimrone where Greta Garbo stayed in 1927:) Our last day we stopped by the ruins of Pompeii on our way to the Naples airport. What an amazing sight to see this well perserved city which use to be a booming trading city of 20,000 people that was buried under 30 feet of ash in A.D. 79!! Seeing Mt. Vesuvius in the background as you walk the ruins is quite a sight....
