FRANKENSTEIN:)

After a night at Ramstein AFB we left for home (the long way) and drove to the town of Frankenstein (Yep..THE ONE). This is not the place that has the castle made famous as the Stoker Frankenstein castle (actually in an earlier blog), but the real one in the real village. And it is a SMALL little town..but you get the idea from the old castle ruins on the hill overlooking the village that this is the place that the old Lon Chaney movie could be fitted to....with the villagers storming the castle torches, clubs and axes in hand..another place to stop and just let it soak in..We went on to the wine area with the vineyards on the flats lands along the adjacent hills...villages like Bad Durkheim, Deidesheim (thats me in the bronze suit there), Neustadt, on south to a castle on the top of an adjacent mountain that , like many others along the front range, dates back to the 1100's.Remember that you can double click on any of these pictures to make them bigger. See the castle with a unique history in the next blog.
